Two Positions - Farm Assistant & Tractor Operator
Two Positions – Farm (Dairy) Assistant & Tractor Operator
If you are a hardworking couple or a couple of mates keen on hunting or fishing and are looking for an awesome opportunity for the 2018/19 season, then you need to take a look at this!
We have two positions available for the upcoming season within our dairy farm/agricultural contracting business.
Our 160-ha effective dairy farm is mainly flat, very tidy and fully developed, peak milking 390 cows and is run in conjunction with our agricultural contracting business. The farm is located on the foothills of the Ureweras in the beautiful Galatea valley, approx 1 hours drive to Whakatane, Rotorua and Taupo.
Dairy Assistant: We are seeking a drug free, honest, hardworking Dairy Assistant to join our very experienced team. The successful applicant will work alongside the Farm Owners and 2IC (who has been with us for 6 seasons) to help in the day to day running of our dairy farm. The 2IC and Dairy Assistant (working and reporting to the 2IC) will be responsible for milking the main herd (all colostrum and penicillin cows milked though a separate shed run by Farm Owner – Farm Owner also does the calves).
The cowshed is a 24 aside herringbone and is a one person shed so the milkings will be shared between the 2IC and Dairy Assistant. We use 16-hour milkings later in the season depending on growing conditions.
We require someone who has a willingness to learn, can work on their own, has a genuine empathy for animals and a positive attitude. Experience with machinery and a sense of humour definitely a bonus!
Tractor Operator: We are seeking a drug free, honest, hardworking person to work alongside the Owners to be responsible for operating and maintaining tractors and machinery throughout the busy contracting season in the Galatea valley.
We run a fleet of John Deere tractors using various implements throughout the year. Hours will vary depending on growing seasons, so the successful applicant must be flexible.
We require someone who has previous driving experience and mechanical knowledge. You must be a team player, able to work unsupervised, have excellent communication skills and a positive attitude. Again, a sense of humour definitely a bonus!
There is a two-bedroom farm cottage available for accommodation but as both positions require different work hours these positions will not be suited to a family.
Good wages and time off will apply to the right applicants, for more information please email Chris and Dione van den Broek: firstname.lastname@example.org
To be considered for these positions please provide a CV for each role outlining your employment history and relevant skills – along with at least 2 employment referees each that can be phoned.
You need to be available for interviews and maybe required to undergo random drug testing. Only applicants with the appropriate NZ work visas will be considered.
