Farm Technician - Rimanui Farms Ltd

  • Located in the Central North Island working on some of NZ’s most iconic farms.
  • Seeking an existing Farm Technician or a graduate that can grow into this role.
  • Flexibility with regard to housing location (on-farm, Taihape or Hawke’s Bay).

WHERE

Rimanui Farms Limited is a largescale farming business operating sheep and beef farms across the North Island and dairy farms in the South Island. The portfolio of properties includes some of New Zealand’s most iconic farms.

The farms have been extensively developed over time and are managed by high performing Farm Managers and their teams. Stock policies are a mix of sheep and beef cattle, predominantly breeding and finishing in conjunction with a range of other dry stock enterprises. There is also a forestry resource and some non-productive land.

The business has the necessary resources and stakeholder support to achieve the three areas of focus in its business strategy; improving farm performance, protecting the environment and supporting their people to realise their potential.

WHAT

As the Farm Technician you will be reporting to the Business Manager while working closely with four Farm Managers on the sheep and beef properties they manage. The primary purpose of the role is to collate and record information and analyse on-farm data to assist with planning and farm management decision making.

The properties include Erewhon (3,800ha) and Springvale (2,900ha) Stations on the Napier-Taihape Road about 30 minutes from Taihape; Mangaohane Station (4,840ha) on the Mangaohane Road 50 minutes from Taihape and Whakamarumaru Station (935ha) located near Crownthorpe in Hawke’s Bay. WHO

Rimanui Farms Ltd is looking for a Farm Technician with the following attributes to grow and be successful in this role:

  • Technical farming systems and agronomy knowledge.
  • On-farm experience would be advantageous to ensure a full understanding of seasonal requirements and farm activities. A wide range of farming skills will be viewed as favourable.
  • Tertiary qualification in Agriculture/Agribusiness (preferred but not essential).
  • A high level of computer literacy and reporting skills including experience working with farm management software such as FarmIQ and Farmax (preferred).
  • Understanding of risk management/compliance.
  • Technologically minded and receptive to using new technology.
  • Good observational skills, well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to positively contribute.
  • Strong relationship management, communication and problem-solving capability as well as the ability to work and meet deadlines in a multifaceted environment.
  • Full Drivers’ Licence.

  • Flexibility with regard to housing location - there is the option for someone to live on farm or in town. For the right applicant there could be the ability to live in Hawke’s Bay and commute to the farms 2-3 days per week.
  • Single accommodation available on farm with cook house or an alternative arrangement may be negotiated; travel to the farms may be considered for an applicant the lives in a nearby area.
