Ongaha Enterprise Ltd is an immaculately presented family-owned farming business, located 10 minutes west of Martinborough and 16km south of Greytown in South Wairarapa. WHAT
Reporting to the Owners and Farm Overseer, the Farm Manager is responsible for the implementation of the farm business plan and sustainable operation of Ongaha Enterprise Ltd. The overall objective of this role is to carry out the key responsibilities, with the aim being to maximise Ongaha Enterprise Ltd’s company profitability with the emphasis on stock performance and farm productivity. The Farm Manager will be supported by an existing 2IC who is very capable and also goes above and beyond for the business.


There is an evolving business plan to which the Farm Manager will actively contribute. The current approach is to maximise the farm’s potential through a mixed stock trading and cropping enterprise. Ongaha embraces on-farm technology to drive production and efficiency; the appointee will need to be an experienced FarmIQ and FarmFocus user as a minimum.


The role also encompasses maintenance and continued improvement of farm infrastructure, plant condition and the management of people resources. Building on the team culture by ensuring all staff have a common sense of purpose, is a key function of this role, whilst at the same time building a positive marketplace perception of the business and ensuring it is always visitor ready.

WHO
The owners are looking for practical and experienced Farm Manager with a proven track record of animal performance and profitability to perform the functions of this role. The below are also key to success in this role:

  • Strategic business planning experience with 2-3 years proven farm management experience.
  • Sound animal husbandry and pasture management.
  • Accurate record keeping and a strong ability to utilise technologies – FarmIQ and Farm Focus are essential management tools.
  • High level of communication ability and ability to develop positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Be able to demonstrate business acumen, an investment mindset and clear aspirations for the future. The owners are not afraid to invest in new ideas and technology if the potential benefits are presented and explained well.
  • Highly organised and able to deal with multiple priorities with urgency and accuracy.
  • An open mind to leaning, career development and personal growth.
  • Strong focus on health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • General skills - tractor, irrigation, temporary electric fencing etc.
  • Capable team of 4 working dogs.
