Stock Manager - Hawke's Bay

Reference: #927777

A BIT ABOUT MATAPIRO STATION…

Matapiro Station is a privately owned farming operation in the Hawke’s Bay farming district of Crownthorpe. This 2300ha Station is an iconic farming business that is successfully running a large-scale breeding and finishing operation within 25 minutes of Napier and Hastings. This is a high performing property with good farming policies and excellent infrastructure in place.

Our clients are very proud of the Station, it’s history and the achievements to date.

THE OPPORTUNITY…

The Stock Manager will be working closely with the highly regarded Station Manager Michael Lowther, in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of Matapiro Station. There will be variety in your work involving stock, pasture and general work. Due to the scale of the property and the results that are currently being achieved, well-rounded pasture management would be beneficial as well as experience finishing stock.

As there isn’t much stock on farm over the summer, the Station Manager encourages staff to take leave and refresh themselves over the summer period.

A BIT ABOUT YOU…

As well as relevant experience to fulfil the position requirements and a passion for the industry, the successful applicant will come with the ability to work both autonomously and in a small team, show good leadership skills and provide support to the Manager by way of the following:

  • Excellent stockmanship with 5-6 working dogs under good control.
  • A good understanding of pasture management including application of feed budgets.
  • Accurate record keeping skills.
  • Adherence to health & safety policies.
  • Sounds fencing & general skills.
  • Ability to crutch and drench through a conveyor system.

ON OFFER…

As part of the attractive remuneration, there is a tidy, comfortable, and warm three bedroom home available, which is centrally located on the station. The property is in the farming district of Crownethorpe, which boasts a good rural community, a well-regarded rural school – Pukehamoamoa and the bus can be caught from the gate. Crownethorpe is a commutable distance to both Napier and Hastings.

If you are keen to progress your farming career, we would love to hear from you!
