Stock Manager | AgRun Ltd - Turangi

WHERE

AgRun Ltd is a farming operation specialising in finishing beef stock for premium prices and became the Lessee (3+3+3 years) of an 865ha effective property in Turangi 18-months ago. In addition to finishing bulls, AgRun grazes dairy heifer for select clients. Since acquiring the lease, AgRun has taken the property through an infrastructure improvement and development process, tidying it to a high level and undertaking significant pasture work to increase yield.

The intensive grazing system is mainly grass based, supported by 40ha of winter and summer crops. During the spring and summer period the property has significant grass growth.

WHAT

Our client seeks a Stock Manager with experience in the day-to-day management of bull and steer finishing and heifer grazing. Reporting to Mr James Bourke, the successful applicant will understand the daily feeding requirements of the different age groups and types of stock adjusted for seasons and conditions. They will be responsible for planning and organising the grazing rotations and will be required to complete regular pasture walks to measure feed availability. The role also includes planning for incoming stock and completing EASD forms.

In this role the Stock Manager will have exposure to the commercially aware owners, who are open to the presentation of new ideas and/or suggestions – if they see merit, it will be implemented as appropriate.

Mr Bourke is on-farm and is an experienced farmer and as such he can assist in the professional development of the successful Stock Manager. There is also a team on farm with a wide range of skills to support the candidate.

  • Excellent stockmanship – confident with bulls.

  • Strong pasture management/feed budgeting skills.

  • Able to read seasonal weather conditions in relation to feed management.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Able to work independently.

  • Flexible with time management.

  • Capable team of 1-2 working dogs ideally.

  • General skills - tractor, drilling, temporary electric fencing etc.
