Experienced Machinery Operator | Pentwyn Farms Ltd

WHERE
Pentwyn Farms Ltd is a 1,200 ha sheep and cattle farming operation located in the hills close to the Desert Road, 10 minutes from Waiouru and 20 minutes from Taihape, in the Manawatu-Whanganui region.


This property has been under the ownership of Pentwyn Farms Ltd for more than 50 years and has good infrastructure and systems that have been developed to enhance it. Currently the business is running breeding ewes, finishing lambs, bulls, steers
and heifers, and there is also 141 ha of both forage and cash crops.

Pentwyn Farms Ltd also run a contracting business, with a modern fleet of 12 John Deere tractors ranging from 70–400 hp. They support surrounding farms with full cultivation, direct drilling, hay and baleage, and the contour ranges
from flat to steep. The contracting business has a great reputation built on strong communication, quality of work and reliability, which sets the expectation of all team members.


Pentwyn Farms has a well-established and loyal team who, on average, have all been with the business for 8 plus years. The business has a positive culture and an owner that cares about their employees’ health and wellbeing.


WHAT
Due to the continued expansion of this successful contracting business, our client is now looking for an Experienced Agricultural Operator to join their team. You will need several years’ experience with operating both cultivation and silage/hay contracting machinery. With the contour of country, you will need to be competent with operating on both flat to steeper hill country.

This business will invest in your career development and for the right person, there is a potential pathway into a more senior position. You will work alongside the owner and other team members and autonomously at times. This is a full-time position with contracting work taking priority from September to May, and then outside these
months there will be general farm work and tractor maintenance in a well-equipped workshop preparing for the following season. There will also be some feeding out and digger work to be done within the farming operation.

WHO
Our client is looking for an Experienced Machinery Operator with a high level of respect towards the farm equipment and their clients’ properties. The below are also key to success in this role:

  • Competent tractor driving skills and experience operating machinery on hills would be an advantage.
  • Well-developed general tractor and machinery maintenance skills.
  • Full Driver’s Licence.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to build rapport with a wide range of clients.
  •  Good record keeping is essential.
  • Be able to work unsupervised and safely.
  • Flexibility with hours worked during busy summer months.
  • Enjoy being part of a great team.
