Farm Technician/Technical Manager | Lochinver Station

WHERE
Rimanui Farms Limited is a large scale farming business operating sheep and beef cattle farms across the North Island and a cluster of dairy farms and support land in the South Island. The farms have been extensively developed and are managed by a team of highly performing Farm Managers.
 
Lochinver Station is an iconic New Zealand station located on SH5, 25 km’s from Taupo’s township. The property comprises 13,843 ha of which approximately 9,500 ha are effective. The farm winters some 100,000 SU, including 32,000 breeding ewes, 2,200 breeding cows and their replacements, together with a large dairy support business. A
feature of the property is over 6,000 ha of cultivatable land suitable for a wide range of farming policies. The farm retains significant potential for further improvement.

WHAT
As the Farm Technician/Technical Manager you will join a team of 22 high calibre farm staff reporting to the newly appointed General Manager Lochinver and Otamatea Station. Working closely with the on-farm team you will collect, collate and analyse farm data to provide objective information to monitor farm performance and support Farm
Management decision making.
 
Providing administrative support to the Farm and Stock/Block Manager/s is also part of the role to assist the smooth running of the farm/s. The property has a significant cultivation and regrassing program and the Farm Technician/Technical Manager plays an important role in the planning, organisation and monitoring of that program.

WHO
This role requires an individual interested in the science of agriculture and how it affects farm performance. As well as being technically strong we seek someone with sound planning skills, with attention to detail, analytical and able to meet deadlines and maintain accurate records. The ability to work co-operatively with a wide range of people is also important in this role, as are a genuine care for animals and their welfare, together with:
  • Relevant Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Ideally 2 or more years’ experience as a Farm Technician.
  • Technical farming systems and agronomy knowledge.
  • On-farm experience is advantageous to ensure an understanding of seasonal requirements and farm activities.
  • A high level of computer literacy and reporting skills including experience working with farm management software such as FarmIQ and Farmax (preferred).
  • Understanding of HSE risk management/compliance.
  • Full Drivers’ Licence.
