Agri Business Manager | Palliser Ridge
Palliser Ridge has both Sheep & Beef and Dairy farms totalling some 1,500 hectares of effective grazing. We have a motivated team who are focused on regenerating the land we farm and looking after our 15,000 odd livestock units, whilst achieving top quartile returns.
Our S&B farm, winner of the 2019 Balance Farm Environmental Award for the Wellington Region, was one of the first NZ farms to achieve both the Savory Institute’s “Land to Market” as well as the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certification. Our all-grass, Dairy farm will start transitioning to an organic certification in 2025/26, our fourth season. The two farms are integrated where possible, eg., winter and dry-stock dairy grazing on the S&B farm and rearing all dairy progeny, sired by Angus genetics, as inputs to the beef finishing operation. However, the farms’ performances are measured as separate entities.
We take some of our products beyond the farm gate via our Expansion operation, particularly wool, targeting high-end markets, eg., lambs’ wool throws.
The role will cover management of both farms and possibly be expanded to cover the Expansion business, replacing both our Farm and Expansion Managers, a husband-and-wife team, who will leave us on June 30, after 14 years of great progress!
The successful candidate will likely have:
1. Strong farming hands-on and proven leadership experience in S&B &/or Dairy,
2. A positive & motivational outlook,
3. Competence in strategy development, planning & project management,
4. Strong analytical skills and familiarity with relevant software, eg., Farm Focus,
5. Good communication skills, including at governance group/industry levels,
6. Relevant tertiary qualifications and lastly, be a good person to be around!
A competitive compensation package, including a recently renovated four-bedroom house, will be offered to the successful candidate. Our local village is Pirinoa which boasts a primary school, rugby & netball teams, tennis club and a general store. There are bus services to excellent secondary schools in the Wairarapa. The adjacent Aorangi Forest Park and Palliser Bay provide great outdoor recreational opportunities.
