WHERE 
Devane Brothers Ltd is a family farming business, that consists of four brothers who have set up this farming company. The brothers are all involved in the farming sector through various agri-businesses and are looking to support their Farm Manager.  

The family are looking for a hands-on Manager to run the 600 ha property. The farm is based in the Mataroa farming district just 25km from Taihape. The property carries 5,500su, with a sheep and beef breeding operation with a mix of finishing and store. All the cattle progeny are sold at the May weaner fair in Feilding, replacement heifers are brought in-calf, and 1/3 of the lambs sold to the works and 2/3’s sold store.  

 

WHAT 
As the Farm Manager you will be fully responsible for the day-to-day operations of this property, there is a farm policy in place, but new ideas will be welcome. This role will report directly to one family member and then you will be required to complete a monthly farm report to the family. 

The key requirement is stock first, it is a simple system based on doing the basics of farming well, from stock performance through to maintaining good pasture quality. You will need to have an efficient team of 5-6 working dogs and have a high level of stockmanship. 

When time allows it is expected that you will complete some general work, this maybe R&M fencing and handpiece work. During busy times casual staff are employed to help with jobs such as weaning, docking, shearing and yard work.

WHO
Our clients are looking for a Farm Manager who has a strong work ethic and is happy to work autonomously day to day in a hands on management role.  The below are also key to success in this role:

  • Stockmanship, high level of performance and understanding with animal health.
  • Pasture management, feed budgeting, knows how to achieve good feed quality.
  • Strong communication skills verbal and written.
  • Computer literate, tech savvy.
  • Efficient team of 5-6 working dogs.
  • Be organized and well planned.
