WHERE
AW Parsons Estate, administered by the Public Trust, is a sheep and beef farming operation that has been running since 1953 and is a Charitable Trust. Based in Wallingford, 30 minutes south of Waipukurau in Central Hawke’s Bay, this property is approximately 1089ha of medium to steep country.
As part of the AW Parsons Charitable Trust, it's a privilege to work within a farming business that gives back and plays such a significant role in the community.
 
AW Parsons Estate is well established with very good infrastructure including sub-division, tracks, an ongoing tree planting plan and there is also 32ha of pine forest. The farm is currently running top genetics in the cow herd allowing for high fertility and growth.
 
 
WHAT
As the Experienced Shepherd you will be working closely with the Farm Manager in an inclusive farming environment. You will require a high level of communication skills and be able to work autonomously, when required. Along with the stock-work you will also need to complete general tasks such as R&M fencing and know your way around a handpiece.
 
Along with a good level of stockmanship you will have the ability to handle young stock in a calm and quiet manner. Some experience with calving would be beneficial as they have a lovely herd of Angus cows. This role will require a team of 5 well controlled working dogs.

WHO
Our client is looking for a positive self-starter, who would like to pick up more responsibility and take ownership of their tasks. The below are also key to success in this role:
  • Experienced stock person with a capable team of 5 working dogs.
  • Have an understanding of feed and pasture management.
  • Good communication skills, highly organised and be able to work autonomously.
  • Strong understanding of compliance including H&S, and environmental awareness.
