-
Large scale farming operation located in Southland.
-
Advise on ag strategy, manage projects, and lead a capable team.
-
Join a supportive, forward-thinking farming business.
WHERE
Mount Linton Station Limited (MLS) is one of New Zealand’s largest privately-owned stations, spanning 12,145 hectares and recognised for its highly productive land and strong commitment to sustainable farming.
The station’s success has been shaped by the dedication of its people, past and present, and a clear focus on genetic excellence. MLS began recording its Angus herd in 1991, Romney flock in 1995, and has more recently added Suftex sheep. Ongoing genetic improvements are reflected in the performance of both sire and commercial stock.
To meet the challenges of the Southland climate, MLS breeds resilient, high-performing animals for long-term, sustainable production. A well-established cropping and regrassing programme supports the wider sheep and beef operation. The farm is home to a large and capable team of 21 staff, contributing across all areas, from livestock and land management to infrastructure and administration.
WHAT
As Agricultural Manager at Mount Linton Station (MLS), you will be responsible for leading both the agricultural and machinery divisions, with oversight of cropping, infrastructure, and other designated operational areas. MLS completes around 1,100 hectares of cropping annually, including 650ha of new grass and 500ha which is sown via aerial application.
Working closely with the General Manager, you’ll develop and deliver a strategic cropping plan, manage budgets, organising seed and fertiliser, and maintaining strong relationships with agronomists, suppliers, and contractors.
You’ll lead a capable team of six, including two tractor drivers, a digger operator, workshop manager, and two fencers. While your role carries significant management responsibility, it also involves hands-on work with machinery and active participation in day-to-day operations, supporting and working alongside your team. You’ll also oversee infrastructure projects, including machinery and buildings, and contribute to planning upcoming developments.
This is a leadership role that combines operational oversight with forward-thinking project and team management across a large-scale, progressive farming business.
