WHERE
Brookwood Station is a family-owned, progressive sheep, beef, and cropping business covering 1,250 hectares of flat to steep hill country. Just one minute from Takapau and 15 minutes from Waipukurau, the station is ideally located in the heart of Central Hawke’s Bay.

The farm runs 100 commercial cows, finishes around 800 trade cattle, and turns off between 10,000–15,000 trade lambs annually. A further 300 dairy heifers are grazed on a separate block across Paulsen Road.

Brookwood prides itself on being self-sufficient through breeding and finishing stock, carrying out its own agricultural work, and producing hay and baleage. Fodder cropping supports year-round feeding, while 45 hectares of lucerne and 45 hectares of plantain are grown to finish stock through dry summers. Cash crops, including maize, peas, and barley, also play an important role in the farm system.


WHAT
Brookwood Station is a mixed farming operation who are looking for a motivated Fencer General with a minimum 1-2 years’ experience to join their proactive team and assist in all aspects of the day to day running of the property.

Reporting to the Farm Manager the Fencer General will carry out a variety of tasks including new fencing and fence repairs, sheep and cattle stock handling, general farm and water maintenance, and some tractor work.

This role will include stockwork, it is not a necessity to have a working dog, but if you have 1 or 2 dogs this would be an advantage.

WHO
Our client is looking for a motivated team player with strong practical farming skills. The below are also key to success in this role:

  • Experienced fencer with ability to put up a new fence line.
  • Experience handling sheep and cattle.
  • Tractor driving experience is not essential but advantageous.
  • Strong communication (written and oral).
  • High level of recording keeping skills.
  • High level of integrity and honesty.
  • Ability to take direction and implement tasks efficiently.
  • Have good organisational skills and be a self-starter.
  • Keeping records including diary (paperwork and electronic).
  • Current drivers licence.
