WHERE
Based in Hawke’s Bay, Brownrigg Agriculture is a leading New Zealand agribusiness producing export crops and premium livestock across 7,000 hectares of farmland. Privately owned by brothers David and Jonathan Brownrigg, the business combines scale, reliability, and high standards of animal husbandry with a progressive management structure that supports career development for its people.

Spanning around 1600 ha in Hawke’s Bay, Te Aute Station is a key finishing unit in Brownrigg Agriculture’s portfolio. The farm combines lamb and beef finishing with summer cash crops and winter lamb grazing, supported by a yearround Angus breeding herd. With a mix of flat, rolling, and hill country, Te Aute offers scale, variety, and plenty of mustering, underpinned by improved forages that drive productivity. 

 

WHAT
Working closely in a farm team of four (the Farm Manager, Head Shepherd, Experienced Shepherd and Shepherd) you will help to drive farm performance and ensure smooth operations of the farm. 

You will be actively involved in implementing farm plans, ensuring feed quality targets and grazing plans are achieved, and keeping farm pride standards high.

Alongside the farm team, additional support is available from a shared general team (Farm Support Team). Your day to-day will include stock shifts, grazing assessment and feedback, animal health treatments, crutching/dagging, weighing/sorting stock, and general farm maintenance (including fencing repairs).

WHO
The successful applicant will be driven and have the desire to continually progress themselves and the property. To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Good understanding of the fundamentals of farming.
  • High level of stockmanship with a team of 3 – 5 working dogs.
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive approach.
  • A desire to learn and develop your skills.
  • Interest and ability in utilising technology and modern systems.
  • Accurate record keeping skills.
  • A commitment to being safe at work.
